Here is a post to share a second Q and a with Danijela (@healthyalways) a kind, qualified and registered nutritionist from feel fresh nutrition (@feelfreshnutrition), who is from nz 🕊 Danijela has a beautiful blog and Instagram page with a lot of colourful photos, where she shares a lot of healthy recipes, health and wellness care tips and inspiration ! she loves healthy foods, cooking, baking and creating, and is extremely knowledgeable about nutrition, healthy foods and the connection between nutrition, health and wellness 🌸 a couple of questions I thought of to ask Danijela are about nutrition and self care tips for looking after your skin, and I hope the Q and a post could be helpful in case you are curious about or interested a lot in nutrition, and in self care and looking after yourself as much as possible.
A second Q and a with Danijela
1)are there any natural, plant based or other kinds of nourishing foods you could recommend for looking after your skin (and wellbeing) from the inside out?
Danijela: our skin is an organ, which means it has function to its structure. In order to function it needs adequate, but ideally ample, nutrition – so ultimately, for healthy skin what we eat does matter! I noticed, both with myself and others when working clinically, skin is highly responsive to a nutritious diet, and find that upon improving the quality of what someone is eating will positively impact skin issues.
By ‘quality’ this means eating more foods in their natural state, or as natural as possible, and as often as possible. Here they’re packed full of vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and other wonderful nutrients that support our skin. Some of my favourite foods for skin health include avocados, nuts and seeds, which are all rich in antioxidants and healthy fats. Antioxidants help fight free radical damage, which can otherwise cause skin ageing and damage. Healthy fats can help soothe inflammation, and act like an internal moisturiser!
Fruit and vegetables are also key, as they contain a plethora of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants, to support the skin.
2) are there any kinds of healthy drinks (teas, smoothies or juices) you could also recommend for keeping hydrated as much as possible and looking after your skin (and wellbeing) from the inside out?
Danijela: my favourite two beverages for skin health include firstly water! It keeps us hydrated, aids blood circulation, helps with delivery of nutrients to our cells, and keeps our bowels moving along nicely, which is important for waste removal and reducing constipation (waste build-up in the body = toxic build up! Not good for healthy skin!)
When our skin is dehydrated, wrinkles appear more prominent, and skin more dull and dry – this makes sense, given a huge percentage of us (around 60%) is water. We should aim for 8+ glasses of water/day.
I also love green tea, as it’s rich in antioxidants, which help fight free radical damage within our body – this is great for skin health.
3) are there any other kinds of nutritional, beauty care or self care tips you love or often do to look after yourself as much as possible? (could include a natural supplement, a comfy sleep)
Danijela: my favourite skin care range is KORA Organics. I use their gentle cleanser and soothing moisturiser and find my skin responds really well. I also like doing a masque and good exfoliate each week for a deep clean. Supplement wise, I like for skin health omega-3, vitamin c and zinc – it is important to always chat to a health practitioner first around one’s own needs though. Self care, doing things that make me happy are, I believe, key for good health!! For me this is reading, time with my family/friends/dog, and getting creative in the kitchen.
